Faraway Gazing sunflower demo still life by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I decided to share my painting process with you today. Instead of painting in my studio I just set this still life up in my living room and painted as I watched TV. This is the final picture and I posted it twice just so it would post right.  1. I start by blocking in placement with darks and light.  I moved the cup and decided to leave the frog out...  After I got the basic focus blocked in I decide to Paint in the dark background. This will change a lot as the painting progresses.  My palette starting at bottom and going left Cad yellow light, Cad red light, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue, Pthalo Blue, Indigo Blue, Sap Green and Titanium white in the center. Family Reunion still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan We went camping last weekend. I stopped by Walmart and bought fruit yep just to paint while I was gone. I picked up a huge bag of cherries because they looked so wonderful. Deciding I only needed a few I emptied them all out except a few. Shocked I was to find they were almost four dollars for just a handful. Crazy!!! I couldn't believe it but they did taste yummy when I finally ate them. Frantic for just one more thing I pulled some long grass and put in a vase. 10x8 oil on canvas panel.

Unlikely Things still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I bought some canvas recently that was difficult to paint on. It grabbed the paint and soaked it up making it very hard to paint. I applied gesso and it made it a little easier but I can not say that I ever got it to take paint like it should. This is 20x16 oil on canvas panel.

Miss Chick by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan Again I felt compelled to paint the chick I got for Christmas. It just kinda screams paint me.  I looked around my studio and saw a beautiful red apple. One my daughter brought me a couple of weeks ago.I got the knife and cut it up wanting to capture the fleshy part and seeds but to my surprise it was all brown inside so I did what any artist would do I changed it. China Blue by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan 7x5 still life painting oil on canvas panel I received this little chicken and the vase for a Christmas gift. In fact I received several things to use as still life items. I was ever so happy. Of course you will see them again.

Happiness Has Found Me by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I have had these angels for several years and have painted them a few times. If I changed anything about this painting it would be the cups I guess however I love the clear bottle and the soft shadows.  10x8 oil on gallery wrapped canvas.

And Berries by Angela Sullivan This is painted on a 12x24 gallery wrapped canvas. I really have a difficult time photographing larger paintings. I don't know if it is because I am so familiar with taking pictures of small works or what. this is so much darker than it actually is. Any suggestions for photos would be appreciated.
