It's Fall Ya'll pumpkin painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
It's Fall Ya'll pumpkin painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan What lovely weather...No not the hurricanes but the cool fall air. It does tend to bring that solemn feeling of Thankfulness.  It makes me aware of a power greater than myself. It reminds me to appreciate family and friends and yes even things that I have been blessed with. So bring it on... That cool morning air that drifts throughout the day. The crisp leaves that crunch when you step on them, the warm pumpkin spice latte and hot chocolate and marshmallows. Yes bring it all into my welcoming arms.   Pumpkin painting 10x10x1.5inch gallery wrapped canvas. oil with thick accents left there on purpose. I loved every minute of painting this. I hope you enjoy every minute of looking at it. Have a nice Fall Ya'll !!!

Image
Still Life Pay Attention by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I love the looseness of this painting It is chaotic but organized. I don't even know how I did that. 12x12x1.5 oil on gallery wrapped canvas. I repainted the rose let's see a zillion times. Well maybe not that many but a few for sure.

Still Life painting Sparkle Rosie by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Still Life painting Sparkle Rosie by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan Actually I got the name for this one after a cat. My nephews little girl named her cat Sparkle Rosie, not sparkle or Rosie but Sparkle Rosie and you better not shorten it. She dragged that cat around everywhere. Oh to be loved like that. The sparkle of this vase made me think of it. The open pear was another gift from my daughter who searches for the strangest things because she knows that I love them. 20x16x1.5 oil on gallery wrapped canvas.

Still Life painting I See Clear Through You by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan 24x18x1.5 oil on gallery wrapped canvas. I painted this because I do enjoy painting clear glass. I like the loose strokes of the roses in contrast of the crisp glass.

Still Life Painting If That Isn't Love by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Still Life Painting If That Isn't Love by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I am really enjoying painting rich and loose. Each stroke is a challenge and they don't always turn out like I tell them to. Still Life Painting Threes Company by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Still Life Painting Threes Company by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I usually paint pretty exclusively with RGH artist oil paints but decided to change for a bit so I ordered a set of artist grade Gamblin oils. I don't know if I like them or not. The consistency is so different. I wish I could explain it but the Gamblin seemed to smear and The Cad Red Light just did not seem to mix as bright as with RGH. I am gonna continue to try them because yep! I have a whole set. Maybe it is just me and my not being used to them. I will let you know... 6x6 oil on gallery wrapped canvas.

Still Life Painting "Something Beautiful" by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Still Life Painting "Something Beautiful"  by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I painted all morning, animals for the most part on 6x6 canvas but then I decided to do this one. It is a larger painting on 20x20x1.75 oil on gallery wrapped canvas. Sometimes after painting smaller paintings it is kind of intimidating to start a larger one. I really like this one.

Falling Over You still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Falling Over You still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan So..... Today as I painted I was thinking about some of the things I have learned this past year. One of them being to pay special attention against light vs dark and cool vs warm. This is an example. 6x6 oil on stretched canvas.

Peared still life by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Peared still life by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan This was a challenge but oh so much fun to paint. It is always tricky to make glass look like glass and water look like water. 24x12 oil on stretched canvas.

Table For Two still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Table For Two still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I painted this for my entry for Savannah Christmas on The River Show. I had to send in a painting 50% complete and I thought that once again you might like to see the process for my paintings. Oil painting done Alla Prima on 24x12 stretched canvas. I left some bold brush strokes while leaving areas of thick rich paint created by using a palette knife. I added the bright yellow spot of color on the left upper area of the jar and laid in a little purplish right beside it for contrast. I added highlights to the pears and painted the table cloth in and then dragged paint down and across to make the table cloth under the towel.  This is the start of the painting blocked mainly just establishing location without much crisp detail.  Next I added the cloth, table edge, and pears. This is where I start adding the background color and making the water to look like water by going pretty light in the background ...

Colors still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Colors still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan These pears are really getting too ripe. I wont be able to paint them much longer.  The cherries are fading also but the little blue vase. Tomorrows Snack still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan While painting outside at the wrong time of day is like constantly chasing the shadows and light and if that isn't bad enough try painting outdoors when it is overcast. 10x8 oil on canvas panel.
