Peared still life by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Peared still life by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan This was a challenge but oh so much fun to paint. It is always tricky to make glass look like glass and water look like water. 24x12 oil on stretched canvas.

Table For Two still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Table For Two still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I painted this for my entry for Savannah Christmas on The River Show. I had to send in a painting 50% complete and I thought that once again you might like to see the process for my paintings. Oil painting done Alla Prima on 24x12 stretched canvas. I left some bold brush strokes while leaving areas of thick rich paint created by using a palette knife. I added the bright yellow spot of color on the left upper area of the jar and laid in a little purplish right beside it for contrast. I added highlights to the pears and painted the table cloth in and then dragged paint down and across to make the table cloth under the towel.  This is the start of the painting blocked mainly just establishing location without much crisp detail.  Next I added the cloth, table edge, and pears. This is where I start adding the background color and making the water to look like water by going pretty light in the background inside the glass ja

Image
When The Air Is Cool landscape painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan The original painting is not quite this dark but close. 8x10 oil on canvas panel. I don't really know why I don't usually paint landscapes. I think just because it is an unfamiliar area for me. I hope you are patient with me if you are a follower as I branch out to another venue. Yes, yes I will soon paint still life again.

Late Summer Blooms landscape painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Late Summer Blooms landscape painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I am working on the faded mist of the faraway woods. Of course I had to add a portion of fence. Actually The bottom painting is the first one and I called it done but as I looked closer for a little while I knew the color of the water just was not quite right. The top picture is after I went back and added a darker element to the water giving it a stronger more important look. I like it better anyway. I also added more orange in the water and you just can't go wrong with that right?  8x10 oil on canvas panel. landscape.

Fenced In landscape painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Fenced In landscape painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan I thought I would paint a few landscape paintings for a change and this is the latest in maybe a mini series. I worked a pit to get different shades of gray. It was interesting to use blues and greens with a touch of black. I hope you like it. 10x8 oil on canvas panel.

Violets Among Roses still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan

Image
Violets Among Roses still life painting by Alabama Artist Angela Sullivan Painting is so relaxing. At times I start to get uptight about it and then I make myself take a deep breath and realize that is not drudgery. I do get angry if the painting does not go like I want It to.  I bought this little creamer pitcher in Maine a couple of years ago. It is delicate and one of my favorites. This painting if a 10x8 oil on canvas panel. I painted it on Labor Day this year. I had the most trouble with the basket handle.
